Getting Excited About Extracurriculars
in Extracurricular Activities for College, Get Into College
You can use My Personal Summary to find a thread that connects in your current activities. If none of your current activities really fit well with the picture of yourself that has emerged in My Personal Summary, then you can strongly consider adding new activities that are a better fit.
Consider the personal summaries of two imaginary applicants: Rebecca and Sammy.
What extracurricular activities might Rebecca pursue? There are many! One option would be to volunteer in a doctor’s office. Another could be to try to get connected with an organization that carries out environmental research.
Sammy also has many options open to him. For instance, he might enjoy volunteering at a local law firm, or starting an independent venture.
Sometimes it can be hard to think of activities that would be a good fit for you. This might seem especially difficult for you if you live in a small town or an area without many resources.
With a bit of creativity, though, you should be able to find that perfect extracurricular opportunity.
Having a hard time thinking of extracurriculars you might really love?
Take a few minutes to brainstorm as many ideas as you can.
You can do an internet search to get ideas of careers that interest you. Now try to find people in your community in those careers and ask if they’ll consider offering you a volunteer placement.
